Abstract

Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are religion-based educational institutions that play an important role in shaping a young generation that is competent and possesses strong integrity. This paper aims to examine various efforts carried out by pesantren in instilling moral values, discipline, responsibility, and the intellectual development of students (santri). The results of the discussion indicate that character formation is achieved through the habituation of religious practices, exemplary behavior from kyai and ustadz (religious teachers), the implementation of strict rules, and a learning system that integrates religious knowledge with general education. In addition, supporting activities such as extracurricular programs, leadership training, and community service also contribute to fostering independence, honesty, and responsibility among students. The simple environment of pesantren life, characterized by togetherness and strong religious values, is also a major factor in building personal integrity. By emphasizing a balance between cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects, pesantren are able to produce a generation that is not only academically accomplished but also has strong character. Therefore, pesantren are expected to continue adapting to the development of the times without losing the core values that define their identity, so that graduates can actively participate and make positive contributions to society in a sustainable manner.
