Peran Ma’had dalam pembentukan karakter mahasantri di UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang

Abstract

Mahasantri are university students who undergo academic education while simultaneously receiving religious guidance through the Ma’had system within Islamic higher education institutions. At Universitas Islam Negeri Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang, this guidance is implemented through Ma’had Sunan Ampel Al-Aly, which functions as a campus-based Islamic boarding institution. This study aims to examine the role of Ma’had in shaping the character of mahasantri through various religious, academic, and social activities. The method used in this article is a literature study by reviewing several academic journals, scholarly articles, and official sources related to the Ma’had educational system and the life of mahasantri. The results of the study show that the existence of Ma’had has a significant contribution to students’ character development, particularly in fostering religiosity, discipline, responsibility, and social interaction skills. Various activities such as Qur’anic learning, Islamic studies, language development programs, and social activities serve as important means in this character-building process. However, mahasantri life also faces several challenges, including balancing academic responsibilities with boarding school activities. Therefore, effective management of the Ma’had system is essential to support the optimal development of students’ character.
