Pesantren are traditional Islamic educational institutions that play a strategic role in shaping students’ character, morality, and religious knowledge through the study of classical Islamic texts under the guidance of a kiai. In the digital era, pesantren are required to adapt to the rapid development of information and communication technology. This study aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities faced by pesantren in the context of digital transformation. The method used is a qualitative-descriptive approach through literature review. The findings indicate that pesantren encounter several challenges, including limited technological infrastructure, resistance to change, and the potential negative impacts of digital media use. However, the digital era also offers significant opportunities, such as broader access to learning resources, innovation in teaching methods, and the expansion of da’wah through digital platforms. Therefore, strategic efforts are needed to integrate traditional pesantren values with the appropriate use of technology. In this way, pesantren can remain relevant and continue to function as centers of Islamic education as well as moral guidance in the digital society.
