This study examines the role of santri in responding to the challenges of modernity while preserving the traditional values of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). Pesantren play a crucial role in shaping students’ character through the internalization of moral values, discipline, and spirituality. However, globalization and technological advancement have significantly influenced educational systems, mindsets, and behavioral patterns of santri. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach through literature analysis to explore the relationship between pesantren traditions and modern demands. The findings reveal that santri experience transformation in learning methods, educational orientation, and social roles. The integration of religious and general knowledge becomes essential to ensure that santri can adapt to contemporary developments without losing their Islamic identity. Furthermore, santri are required to develop critical thinking skills, practical competencies, and digital literacy to remain relevant in modern society. Therefore, santri in the modern era are not only guardians of religious traditions but also agents of change who contribute to social development and are capable of addressing global challenges in a balanced and responsible manner.
