Pendekatan realistic mathematics education (rme) berbantuan alat peraga dalam meningkatkan pemahaman konsep pecahan siswa madrasah ibtidaiyah
Abstract
Understanding the concept of fractions is a fundamental aspect of mathematics learning at the Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) level. Nevertheless, evidence from the field indicates that many MI students continue to struggle with developing meaningful comprehension of fractions, particularly in operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. This article aims to theoretically explore how the application of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach combined with the use of manipulative teaching aids can enhance students’ conceptual understanding of fractions. The method employed is a literature review with a descriptive analytical approach. Findings suggest that the RME approach, which emphasizes real life contexts and exploratory activities, when supported by appropriate teaching aids such as fraction circles, fraction boards, and fraction cards, can foster gradual and meaningful conceptual development of fractions. Fraction operations including addition with like and unlike denominators, multiplication, and division can be more intuitively understood by students through visual concrete representations facilitated by manipulatives. This study recommends the implementation of RME assisted by teaching aids as an innovative and contextual alternative for fraction learning in MI.
