Abstract

This study analyzes the values of birrul walidain in the Qur'an through a tafsir study of QS. Al-Isra’ verses 23–24 and their relevance to the lives of today’s youth. The study is based on the declining attitude of respect and care among teenagers toward their parents due to the influence of technological advancement and social media. The method applied is qualitative research using a library research approach. The research data were obtained from tafsir books, academic journals, books, and previous studies discussing birrul walidain and moral education in Islam. Data were collected through literature reviews from Google Scholar, ResearchGate, and UIN repositories. The data were then analyzed through the processes of collecting, classifying, and interpreting information relevant to the focus of the study. The results of the study indicate that QS. Al-Isra’ verses 23–24 contain the values of birrul walidain, such as respecting parents, showing affection, speaking politely, and the obligation to pray for one’s parents. The mufassirs also emphasize that honoring parents is a primary responsibility after believing in and affirming the oneness of Allah SWT. These values remain highly relevant to be implemented in the lives of today’s youth in order to develop polite, responsible, and morally upright character.
