Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and social change have had significant implications for the practice of Quranic education, particularly in memorization (tahfidz) methods. This article aims to examine the dialectic of classical and contemporary Islamic scholars' views on the relevance of Quranic memorization in the modern era. This study traces the evolution of the tahfidz method from the classical tradition that emphasized sanad, adab, and spirituality, to a contemporary approach based on digital technology that offers flexibility, accessibility, and learning efficiency. This research uses a qualitative approach through a literature review of classical exegetical works, the thoughts of contemporary Islamic scholars, and the results of recent research related to the digitalization of tahfidz education. The results of the study indicate that although the digital approach offers various pedagogical advantages, there are serious challenges in the form of a potential reduction in the spiritual dimension, infrastructure inequality, and ethical issues in the use of technology. Therefore, this article emphasizes the importance of an integrative approach that connects classical principles with digital innovation in a proportional manner, so that Quranic memorization education remains adaptive to current developments without losing the values of Islamic knowledge and spirituality.
