Student learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) are still suboptimal. Students’ learning outcomes in Social Studies (IPS) are still far from ideal. This situation is closely linked to a teaching approach that remains teacher-centered, thereby severely limiting students’ opportunities to actively engage in the learning process. To address this issue, it is necessary to implement a learning model capable of fully optimizing student engagement. This study was designed to examine improvements in the IPS learning outcomes of eighth-grade students at MTsN 1 Malang through the implementation of the Team Games Tournament (TGT) cooperative learning model. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with two improvement cycles, each of which included the stages of planning, implementation of actions, observation, and reflection. Data collection was conducted through written tests, observation sheets, and activity documentation. This study involved 32 eighth-grade students as research subjects. The findings demonstrated that the TGT model significantly boosted student learning outcomes, as evidenced by a significant increase in the learning achievement rate from 74% prior to the intervention to 89% after the intervention was implemented. In addition, the implementation of the TGT model also had a positive impact on increasing active engagement, the spirit of collaboration among students, and learning motivation in the learning process. Based on these findings, the TGT learning model has the potential to become an alternative approach in social studies learning to improve the quality of the learning process and student achievementDownloads
