Pemanfaatan biomassa sebagai adsorben ramah lingkungan dalam pengolahan air tercemar
Keywords:
Biomass, adsorption, heavy metals, wastewater, water treatmentAbstract
Industrial growth has led to increased discharges of liquid waste containing toxic heavy metals, as well as high levels of COD and TDS, into aquatic ecosystems. The use of lignocellulosic biomass and the fungus Aspergillus niger offers an affordable and eco-friendly natural adsorption solution. Active functional groups (-OH, -COOH, -NH₂) and pore cavities generated through physicochemical processing serve as the primary drivers for binding pollutants. Hazardous metals such as Cu, Cd, Cr, Fe, Pb, and Hg are effectively removed through ion exchange and chemical bond formation, while COD and TDS levels are reduced as pollutant molecules become trapped within the material matrix. Controlling operational variables such as pH, contact time, and adsorbent dosage is crucial for ensuring the binding process proceeds efficiently until equilibrium is reached. Overall, utilizing this organic waste provides a practical, efficient, and highly effective water treatment solution that supports environmental sustainability.
