Peran pembaca (Reader-Response) dalam membentuk makna sastra
Keywords:

Meaning in literary works is no longer viewed as something solely determined by the author, but as the result of interaction between the text and the reader. Reader-response theory emphasizes the active role of readers in constructing meaning through their experiences, social backgrounds, and cultural contexts. This article discusses the role of readers in shaping literary meaning using reader-response theories developed by Wolfgang Iser, Stanley Fish, and Louise Rosenblatt. The analysis focuses on how different reader backgrounds produce diverse interpretations of the same literary work. The study reveals that literary meaning is dynamic and not singular, but continuously shaped by readers’ perspectives and experiences. This article highlights the importance of critical awareness in reading literature as an active interpretative process. Thus, reader-response theory asserts that the reading of literature is a dialogic process between text and reader, making the diversity of the reader's experiences and perspectives a crucial element in generating contextual and dynamic interpretations of literary works.
