Abstract

This research digs into the kinds and spread of presuppositions in Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa’s first speech as Indonesia’s Finance Minister. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, the study identifies five types of presuppotitions: existential, lexical, factive, structural, and non-factual. Turns out, existential presuppositions show up the most, highlighting institutions, economic situations, and government duties. The others pop up less often, but they help tighten up the arguments. In the end, the research shows how presuppotitions work as a subtle but powerful way to build authority, legitimacy, and persuasive force in political speeches.
