Modernisme Tafsir Juz ‘Amma Muhammad Abduh
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the manhaj of the tafsir, the main themes, and the style of language in Muhammad Abduh's Tafsir Juz 'Amma as one of the important representations of the Islamic modernism movement. This study uses a qualitative-descriptive method with content analysis of the text of interpretation as the main source of data, and supported by secondary literature on Abduh's thought and methodology. The results of the study show that Muhammad Abduh applied the manhaj Tafsīr Adabī Ijtimā'ī which emphasized education, rationality, and social orientation in interpreting the verses of the Qur'an. The main themes that emerge in his interpretation include the rationalization of cosmological verses, the affirmation of moral and social values, and a moderate approach to occult issues. In terms of language style, Abduh uses eloquent language but is concise, analytical, and reinforced by rational explanations and logical metaphors. Overall, this study confirms that the Tafsir Abduh serves as a bridge between the text of the Qur'an and the needs of modern ummah through a rational, simple, and social-reform-oriented approach.
