Tidur sebagai ibadah
Antara sunnah Nabi dan manfaat kesehatan modern
Abstract
Sleep is a fundamental biological need for humans, intertwined with both spiritual and health dimensions. In Islam, sleep is viewed as a form of rest bestowed by Allah to maintain physical and mental equilibrium. The Quran likens sleep to a "minor death," where the human spirit temporarily detaches from the body, as elaborated in QS. Az-Zumar:42 and QS. Ar-Rum:23. The Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) provides guidance on sleep that not only holds spiritual value but also positively impacts health. This research examines the sleeping position recommended by Rasulullah SAW—lying on the right side—which modern health science has shown to better support the digestive system and cardiac function. Ideal sleep duration and timing also align with the body's circadian rhythm, where sleeping in the early part of the night and waking in the last third of the night enhances metabolism and the immune system. Furthermore, pre-sleep routines such as performing ablution (wudhu), cleaning the bed, reciting prayers, and extinguishing lights offer holistic benefits for maintaining physical and psychological health. By integrating Islamic teachings and scientific findings, this article demonstrates that the Prophet's sunnah of sleep is not merely an act of obedience but also a guide for healthy living that can enhance overall sleep quality and well-being.
